Meditation Practice

It’s the new year but any time is a great time to recommit to a meditation practice. Meditation is such an interesting paradox-I find that most people are worried about ‘doing it wrong’ but that is impossible to do, in my opinion. If you sit down to meditate, that is what you are doing even if you only spend a minute. The only thing you need to do is try to rest your mind, whatever that means to you at that time. There are those who meditate for hours per day, and I’m so grateful for them because, wow! What amazing energy they are bringing to the universe. I admit I’m not capable or even really interested in spending that much time…but I do try to spend at least 5 mintues a day, I do more if I feel like it but the only thing that matters to me is that I spend some time PRACTICING¬† being present in my body, in time, in space. I have absolutely found that the more I PRACTICE this when it’s easy-at home, in a quiet spot-the easier it is to quiet my mind when I need to-like in traffic! That’s the perfect example for me. Traffic and driving triggers me to stress more than anything else in my day but if I have been practicing quieting my mind in meditation, I find that I can detach from the emotional response I might have and observe what is happening without freaking out. It’s pretty great.

I have a little handout from a half-hour meditation class, check it out and don’t hesitate to contact me with questions!
